Novant Health Matthews Medical Center – Vertical Expansion

The recent vertical expansion at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center was necessary to increase capacity for Med/Surg and ICU Patient Beds. The expansion included adding one floor to the existing four-story patient tower, and extension and upgrade of all public/patient support, elevators, and stairtowers. Efforts were made to minimize construction impact on the occupied patient floor located below the addition. The fifth floor addition now provides nine ICU, nine Intermediate, nine Med/Surg, three Hospice, and nine Observation Patient Beds. In the future, the Observation Beds can be used for Med/Surg or ICU expansion. Mechanical services were provided by a new Penthouse located on the Vertical Addition.
