The Surgery Renovation and Addition project completely replaced the existing operating suite at Spartanburg. The first phase relocated the pre-surgical testing department and surgery waiting room. The operating room replacement is the second phase. The third phase was completed in 2009, and includes 27 new pre-operation rooms and 26 new recovery bays. This project utilized the Marquet Variop modular wall system which uses modular metal wall elements that can be adapted to any building situation and the ever-changing technology requirements. Although used in Europe for years, this system is a prototype and the first application of its kind in the United States.
