The Expansion Project at CarolinaEast was the largest expansion of the hospital in over 50 years.
A new 3-story expansion of the hospital provided the open chair for the renovation of the Women’s Center and Emergency Departments. On the 1st floor, Administration, Public/Patient Relations, Cafe and Gift Shop were relocated. On the 2nd floor, a new 26-bed Medical Surgical Unit was provided and on the 3rd floor, a new lab and blood bank.
The space vacated adjacent to the ED provided double the square footage of the original ED, allowing for 33 new private exam rooms, 2 trauma rooms, 13 rapid evaluation bays and 16 results waiting areas.
The new building cleared the space adjacent to the Women’s Center to allow for a completely new 18-bed Post Partum suite, relocation of the Nursery, full renovation of 7 LDRs and a new C-Section suite.
A new concourse was added along the front of the hospital, connecting the Main Entrance to the new visitor entrance to the Emergency Department, providing way-finding and natural light to the space.
